In this project, I studied Bose' visual brand language and CMF by designing concepts for their soundbar product line. To improve the files' efficiency on my machine, I also explored procedural texturing to recreate Bose's signature grill patterns.
How might I create an engaging and cooperative experience for Nintendo Labo players?
Visual brand language
Satin and brushed finished body and patterned speaker grills are Bose's iconic attributes. The audio drivers always remain invisible and most of time they use bass reflex systems instead of passive radiators.
Lines could be vertical or tapered but with the overall form simple without much changing curvature. Specific corner radii keep the "sharpness" without being too aggressive for consumer electronics.
Surround sound
Dolby Atmos technology utilizes up-firing speakers to create vertical depth of sound. While Bose's existed soundbars only had front facing speakers, I explored other possibilities to implement the surround sound technology.
To communicate the new feature through forms, I chose ones with narrower front towards users to give the sense of being surrounded by sound.
To implement the Dolby Atmos and DTS:X technology, I explored different configurations: (1) Back firing speakers allowed the design to maintain Soundbar 700's signature tempered glass top. (2) Top firing speakers are the most efficient in acoustics, but would interfere other parts. (3) The original Bose Soundbar 700 configuration, which didn't support Dolby Atmos and DTS:X,

The up-firing speakers now locate at the back to maintain the signature clean look from tempered glass. To reduce the number of parts, the opening for the bass reflex system is now on the side of the back piece.
